Privileges and Fees

With all annual memberships, additional privileges, including use of boats, are available for an additional fee as follows:

Dock Privileges

$100/year for sailboats entered in our racing series,
$200/year for member boats paid before May 1,
$300/year for member boats paid after May 1,
$700/year member commercial use
$700/year for non-members 

 

BYC Boat Usage Program

The BYC wants its members to go sailing!!  The Club’s fleet now includes a Vanguard Nomad, RS Vision, two J70s plus our fleet of Lasers, 420s and JY15s which are the mainstay of our youth and high school sailing programs, as well as our Sunday JY15 series.

With the expanded fleet available to members, BYC has also redesigned its boat usage program to make it easier for adults and families to charter boats for cruising as well as racing, and for individual sailing instruction sessions.

Boat Usage Program Requirements:

    • -Available to BYC individual and family members, and guests approved by the Sailing Director.
    • -The Vanguard Nomad, RS Vision and J70s are available for adult and family day sailing.  Sailing instruction may also be booked on these boats.
    • -The J70s are also available for participation in the BYC Wednesday night racing series.  Generally, use of the J70s for racing or cruising will be subject to the priority of Junior Racing sailors; however, for the May Cup and the Fall Series, and at other times at the discretion of the Sailing Director, one J70 may be reserved in advance by an adult team.
    • -The Lasers, 420s and JY15s may only be chartered for use in BYC-sanctioned racing.  They are not available for cruising.  These boats are currently the maintstays of our youth and high school sailing programs, as well as the Sunday JY15 series, which is open to all members and their families.
    • -All reservations must be made through the Sailing Director,   Generally, reservations for a particular day on a first come first served basis, subject to priorities for youth sailing and prior booked lessons.
    • -The Sailing Director who will make all decisions on sailor competence and whether the conditions will allow for charters on any given day.
    • -Generally, boats may not be used for cruising when the current or expected wind speed exceeds 20 kts or if thunderstorms are forecast or expected.
    • -For Wednesday night racing, J70s may generally participate so long as the RC boat goes out and the Sailing Director approves.
    • -Generally, cruising boats will be required to stay in the area of Shelter Island Sound between the BYC and Mashomack reserve, including the waters off Havens beach to Mashomack Point.
    • -All participants must wear personal flotation devices at all times; all boats must be equipped with a hand held radio; the Sailing Director may specify other equipment requirements.
    • -Charter fees much be paid in advance and the application form and waiver must be signed.
    • -Charterers are responsible for any damage to the charter boat, normal wear and tear excepted. 
    •  

In all cases, the Sailing Director will have the discretion to decline to offer a boat for charter or impose modified conditions on the charter, whether because of the prevailing or expected conditions, the skill of the sailors, the condition of the boat or for any other reason.

 

Fees:

Lasers, 420s, JY15s, RS Vision

  • Annual fee of $195 covering any of the available boats.
  • Single use fee of $30 for Lasers, 420s, JY15s and RS Vision

 

J70s and Nomad

  • Annual fee for J70s and Nomad (includes use of Lasers/ 420s/ JY15s and RS Vision as described above ):
    • $375; or 
    • $350 + 5 hours of work on preseason boat prep*; or
    • 20 hours of work on preseason boat prep*
  • Single use fee of $75 for J70 and $50 for Nomad

Boat Usage & Dock Privileges

Waiver (required)

For and in consideration of Breakwater Sailing Center, Inc. (“BYC”) allowing me, the undersigned, to participate in any capacity in the BYC Summer Youth Sailing Program or any other BYC sanctioned, licensed, or approved event or activity (“Event” or “Events”); I, for myself, and on behalf of my spouse, children, heirs and next of kin, and any legal and personal representatives, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns, hereby agree to and make the following contractual representations pursuant to this Agreement (the “Agreement”):

A. RULES AND REGULATIONS: I hereby agree to abide by the rules, regulations, and policies of the BYC, including any and all COVID-­‐19 related safety measures required by the BYC.

B. ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RISK: I knowingly, willingly, and voluntarily acknowledge the inherent risks associated with the sport of sailing, and that participation in any BYC involves risks and dangers including, without limitation, the potential for serious bodily injury (including broken bones, head or neck injuries), sickness and disease (including communicable diseases such as COVID-­‐19), trauma, pain & suffering, permanent disability, paralysis and death; loss of or damage to personal property; exposure to extreme conditions and circumstances; accidents involving other participants, event staff, volunteers or spectators; contact or collision with other participants or natural or manmade objects; adverse weather conditions; facilities issues and premises conditions; failure of protective equipment; inadequate safety measures; participants of varying skill levels; situations beyond the immediate control of the Event organizers and competition management; and other undefined, not readily foreseeable and presently unknown risks and dangers (“Risks”).
C. ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I understand that the aforementioned Risks may be caused in whole or in part or result directly or indirectly from the negligence of my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Events, or the negligent acts or omissions of the Released Parties defined below, and I hereby voluntarily and knowingly assume all such Risks and responsibility for any damages, liabilities, losses, or expenses that I incur as a result of my participation in any Events. I also agree to be responsible for any injury or damage caused by me or any agents under my direction and control at any Event.

D. RELEASE AND INDEMNITY: In consideration of my participation in any Event, I hereby release from liability and waive any claims against the owner or organizer of the Event, its licensees, competition managers, promoters, sponsors, advertisers, beneficiaries, venue providers, and supporting BYCs, together with the officers, directors, employees, volunteers and contractors of them (the “Released Parties” or “Event Organizers”), with respect to any liability, claim(s), demand(s), cause(s) of action, damage(s), loss, or expense (including court costs and reasonable attorney fees) of any kind or nature (“Liability”) which may arise out of, result from, or relate in any way to my participation in the Events, including claims for Liability caused in whole or in part by the negligent acts or omissions of the Released Parties. Further, I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties and Event Organizers against and from any and all Liability imposed on, incurred by, or asserted against any Released Party or Event Organizer resulting from, arising out of, in connection with, or relating to my breach of this Agreement.

E. COMPLETE AGREEMENT AND SEVERABILITY CLAUSE: This Agreement represents the complete understanding between the parties regarding these issues and no oral representations, statements or inducements have been made apart from this Agreement. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from this Agreement and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS DOCUMENT IN ITS ENTIRETY, UNDERSTAND ALL OF ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS, AND KNOW IT CONTAINS AN ASSUMPTION OF RISK, RELEASE, WAIVER FROM LIABILITY, AND INDEMNIFICATION.

Description

Only one boat usage fee is required per family or for individual members with children who are junior members. One boat per family is allowed out at a time. An adult 21 or older must be in boat at all times. Boat usage is summer weekends only. The club also has two J70s which are available for charter.
